Well, I’m here at the last NRC race of the season in Parker, CO. The first stage of the Parker Omnium is over and the 105.5 (that .5 miles is going to be important, I can just feel it) road race is on tap today. The wind is picking up so my guess is that the race will shatter pretty badly into an elite front group of riders. There really isn’t a flat piece of road on the 21 mile circuit (which we do 5 times). My only hope is to follow the important wheels and see what comes out in the end.
Yesterday was a nice little 7+ mile TT which included a fairly gradual climb followed by a kicker of a climb that, once crested, you were welcomed with a huge head wind. I finished about 2 minutes behind the leader which isn’t all that bad considering I was running my normal road setup and super non-aero wheels (read Ksyriums). I wasn’t the fastest of Axley USA, I was bested by 10″ of that dubious honor. But then again, he had a full on TT setup :-)
The altitude is starting to kick in, my waking resting HR was about 8-10 beats higher than normal, so today should be an interesting experience. Maybe if I had my watch I’d be much more relaxed.
