a”NUT”her one hops on the bandwagon

My small militia of nu-lovers is growing!

However, I put aside my pretzels and jar of Nutella for some PB and apples…mmm….

Busted

That’s basically how things have been this past weekend. Everything and everyone got all busted up. For starters, Saturday was the first race around here with some hills. I started off slow and things heated up at lap 3 of 4 as I followed a move which became the main chasing group. I countered a move and the group of 7 or so became 3. 3 became 2, and then 2 became 1. I was not that “1″ however as I was dropped going up the final climb with about 5 miles left. I was absored and quickly did what I could to help my teammate. Barely able to push the pedals over I think I gave THE SLOWEST leadout EVAR! Of course, things got worse for one of my teammates who knocked a couple of his teeth out

And then to top it off, Murdin goes and gets his wheel stuck in the skewer of someone else’s wheel…his damage was probably just as costly…

Broken spoke and a nice little stretched spoke

Ground down braking surface

It’s amazing that you can’t see the rain of biblical proportions falling around me on these pictures that Hone took

Then on Sunday, it was my turn to bust some spokes. After making what would dwindle down to the winning break, I hear this nice “ping” sound from my rear wheel and come to a grinding halt. I busted that wheel up something fierce as I knocked it out of true AND out of round! Now here’s a ponderable, in a leading break of 7 riders with a 2′ gap on the field, why was there no follow car behind us yet TWO behing the pack? *sigh*

Needless to say that was the end of my race.

My other blog

So, I’ll admit it, my team’s website (complete with a blog for all you RSS junkies) is so hot right now. We got people coming from all over the country and the world. Traffic to the site is beyond what I expected for our little team. Plus our sponsors have gone out of their way to tell us how much they like the site and if there is anything they can do to help us out.

Someone once told me “It’s just a website”…they’ll soon learn.

Weekend #2

This weekend was much better than last. Saturday was another rain fest as is evident here and here where TomP is my homie. Kinda wonky team tactics going on towards the end and I don’t think we had the best intentions towards the latter part of the race. But, in the end, Murdin put in a herculean effort to stick it out in the 70+ mile break with the pack breathing down his neck for the entire last lap.

Sunday was frustrating. We missed a lot of breaks since our team’s fitness/tactics are still coming around. We missed a couple of breaks and I ended up working for many miles in an effort to bring them back. I wish that the race finished about 1k closer to the finishing hill…I can’t complain too much, Murdin the magical got another top 5 and me a top 10.

Wheeeee

Supaflats 2007

Well, the flatuliciousness of last season is back. However I believe someone forgot to mention that racing started for me last weekend because I didn’t get any flats during the races.

However, I did get one on Sunday night with my bike sitting comfortably in my kitchen. And then today, I’m about the furthest out from my home on my ride when my rear wheel starts going soft. I check the tire, change the tube, and in a matter of minutes I got another flat. *sigh*

10 miles on a flat later, I am at home, check the tire again but can’t seem to find what would be causing the flat. Nice to see I’m keeping up with last year…3 flats in 3 days.

First weekend racing

The first two races of my season were a little painful. The first day was spent in freezing cold rain. I am beginning to think that unless there are rocks and mud below my wheels the rain and I just don’t agree. My legs froze and I was quickly ridden from the main break to the chasing break and eventually back to the back. Ouch.

Sunday was a little bit better but missing what would have been the winning break I rode my finishing thoughts away to help bring the break back. A half lap (or 20 minutes) on the front until someone else decided to help out certainly doesn’t help matters much.

If only I were 50lbs heavier I could probably compete with these guys but instead I’ll stick to the back sucking wind. And no, that’s no optical illusion, they really ARE that much bigger than me :-)

I was poisoned!

That’s really the only thing I can think of for why I have been food free for nearly 3 days now! The worst thing about suspecting food poisoning is that you don’t know where it came from. Was it what I had for lunch one day, or was it that new type of milk I tried…the yogurt I just bought…

Today was really the first time I’ve felt like food that I would eat would stay in its place. Seeing as how tomorrow is my first race of the season, it should be an interesting event to say the least!
